New Dzi that are man-made in recent times uses puncher to create the roundish fish scale weathering marks

These man-made weathering marks are sharp at the edges, a tell tale sign it is fake (unlike weathering marks of ancient Dzi that are smoothened at the edges through age)

Streaking marks evident in 'New Dzi' are signs of the chemical dye seeping from the dark coloured patterns to the white regions of the Dzi (New Dzi uses Brazilian agate that is softer compared to Tibetan Dzi/agate and must go through heat treatment to expand the fissures so that the chemical dye can be injected to create the eye patterns)

Another evidence of streaking marks that this is a 'New Dzi'

This 'New Dzi' looks dull (unlike the lustre of Ancient Dzi) and its surface exhibits coarse sanding marks

Another tell tale sign of a man-made weathering mark with sharp edges. Usually weathering marks are not solitary and if there is weathering, it shall be throughout the Dzi (ie millennia-old fish scale weathering marks should be evident all around). In this Dzi, the surrounding surface are rather smooth, a tell-tale sign it is a New Dzi.
